The Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (Mr. Foluso Phillips) has called on consulting engineers in the country to take physical ownership of the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan, NIIMP, assuring that the NIIMP provides a huge opportunity for their emergence.

He made the call during a public event organised by the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria, ACEN. He tasked the consulting engineers on global competitiveness, stressing: “The first task is to understand the huge document and principles driving the NIIMP.

“The second task is to seek to partner with the National Planning Commission and the Ministry. The third is to ensure the legislation of the NIIMP by the Upper and Lower Houses. The fourth is to master the roll out and execution of the plan, knowing that the funding and financing is now by law.

If you are successful in taking ownership and working with government on the execution of NIIMP, then you would have done Nigeria a great service, but your profession a much greater one. Also, see to the creation of the law, which challenges the operation of foreign engineers in Nigeria by modifying it to encourage the compulsory and realistic partnering of local and foreign engineers.”

The newly installed President of the Association, Engr. Temilola Kehinde, condemned what he described as deliberate exclusion of indigenous engineers from national scheme of things and undue delay of service fees whenever patronised.
