England-based striker Victor Anichebe will be considered by Super Eagles for next year’s World Cup, the country’s coach, Stephen Keshi has said.

Anichebe has not played for the Eagles since 2010 and he has said he would rather put his club ahead of his country after he suffered a long-term shin injury in the build-up to the last World Cup.

However, Keshi has now thrown the West Bromwich Albion striker a chance to feature at his first World Cup.

“It was Anichebe who chose not to play for Nigeria at a point in time, so if he decides he is ready to play, why not?,”

Keshi told Complete Sports.

“If he calls me today that he wants to play for the Eagles again, of course I will give him a chance to prove himself and possibly go to the World Cup in Brazil next year.”

The 25-year-old Anichebe, who was also eligible to play for England, debuted for Nigeria in 2008 and featured at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

The big, direct-playing centre forward has a goal in a dozen appearances for the Eagles.

A shin injury caused him to miss a final cut for the 2010 World Cup.
