Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar has said he has not made any decision on whether to join the All Progressives Congress or not.

Atiku, a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, stated this in response to our correspondent’s inquiry on whether he had finally made up his mind to defect to the opposition party.

Rather, he said he was still going to have meetings with his supporters before he could take a decision.

Abubakar, who spoke through his spokesperson, Mr. Garba Shehu, in Abuja said the decision would not be made until he met with his supporters and other stakeholders.

Shehu said, “Abubakar has said there will be meetings with his supporters before such a decision is taken. The meetings are yet to be held and I can tell you that until that is done, he won’t take any step on that.”

He added that since Abubakar had followers and supporters across the country, it would not be politically wise to take such a decision without involving them.

Though the former Vice-President had said he might hold the meetings with his followers before the end of the year, Shehu said that might not be possible because of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“Those meetings are not going to be held in a day. But I can tell you that anytime he takes a decision on this matter, the whole world will know. It won’t be a secret, “ Shehu assured.

Atiku was among the aggrieved members of the PDP that walked out of the PDP mini convention that was held in Abuja few months ago.

The group, in anger, later formed the New PDP, which factionalised the ruling party.

APC leaders, led by its Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, had on Wednesday, visited the Abuja residence of Abubakar and asked him to defect to the opposition party.

The roll-call of the delegation at the parley included former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Governor of Borno State, Ibrahim Shettima; former Speaker of House of Representatives, Bello Masari; Senator George Akume, former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Senator Kabiru Gaya, among others.
