The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Wednesday explained in detail, the amount to be received by the country following its participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
The financial explanation is coming on the heels of reports in some sections of the media that the NFA does not need money to prepare for the World Cup.

The report said that the FIFA financial reward for participating countries was enough to prepare the NFA and the Super Eagles for the 2014 World Cup.
A statement issued by the NFA, however, quoted its Director of Competitions, Mohammed Sanusi, as saying that FIFA would pay each participating member association the sum of 1.5 million U.S. dollars (about N240 million) as preparation money.
“We have been reading and listening to a lot of expert views and analyses on the financial details of Nigeria’s participation in next year’s FIFA World Cup finals.
“The amount guaranteed for each team’s participation in the championship is the sum of 8 million U.S. dollars.
“No team will get this exact sum because the money will be subject to with-holding tax, deductions on accommodation and all extras, as well as other deductions.
“More importantly, this money will not be paid until after the World Cup finals and when what is left is eventually paid, certain percentage of it will go to the players,’’ Sanusi was quoted as saying in the statement.
Sanusi said it was unbelievable to hear that the NFA would not need money for the world cup, stressing that “it takes so much to prepare a team for the world cup’’.
He gave assurance that the NFA would not hide anything regarding monies received for the country’s participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and that the money would be duly accounted for.
The NFA Director regretted the misinformation by some media outfits on the FIFA-World cup-participation-largesse, noting that any money released by FIFA would be in the public domain.
“I urge Nigerians to shun the assumptions by these uninformed football analysts who derive joy in dishing out negative information,’’ Sanusi added. (NAN)
