Brown Ideye |
West Brom defender Gareth McAuley has hailed the club for smashing their transfer record to bring in Nigeria striker Brown Ideye.
Ideye signed for a fee believed to be in the region of £10m and will wear the number nine shirt for his new club this season.
McAuley, who is currently in the USA for the club’s pre-season tour, told the club’s official website, “It’s big news when a club breaks their transfer record and we’re looking forward to working with Brown when we return to the UK.
“It’s common knowledge that the club have been looking to boost our attacking options and we’ve been getting the lowdown on our new striker from Victor Anichebe, who knows Brown from the Nigeria international set-up.”
Ideye has spoken of his delight at securing his dream move to the Premier League, and, despite being yet to meet his new team-mate, McAuley is encouraged by the striker’s attitude.
“You can tell that he’s really excited about he move and that can only be a good thing,” McAuley continues.
“I like what he said, that he’s coming here to score goals and help us win games. He really wants to prove himself to the Albion fans and in the Premier League and we’ll hopefully benefit from that.”
